Twinsburg Varsity Tigers could not keep up with Wadsworth Varsity Grizzlies 6-4 on Monday.
Twinsburg Varsity Tigers got on the board in the top of the first inning after R. Velican grounded out, and K. Eder singled down the right field line, each scoring one run.
Wadsworth Varsity Grizzlies jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Lauren Ball singled, Maddy Hostettler hit a sacrifice fly, and Kailyn Seibert grounded into a fielder’s choice, each scoring one run.
Velican doubled down the left field line, which helped Twinsburg Varsity Tigers tie the game at four in the top of the fifth.
In the bottom of the sixth, Wadsworth Varsity Grizzlies broke up the tie when Jenevieve Swain singled, scoring one run. Then a double by Ball followed to extend the lead to 6-4.
Lorene Bennett earned the win for Wadsworth Varsity Grizzlies. The pitcher surrendered three hits and two runs (one earned) over three innings, striking out none and walking three. Velican took the loss for Twinsburg Varsity Tigers. The pitcher went three and two-thirds innings, surrendering four runs (two earned) on five hits, striking out two and walking three. Isla Gragg stepped in the circle first for Wadsworth Varsity Grizzlies. The starting pitcher surrendered four hits and two runs over two innings, striking out one and walking one.
Velican drove the middle of the lineup, leading Twinsburg Varsity Tigers with three runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 1-for-4 on the day. M. Sweeney led Twinsburg Varsity Tigers with three hits in four at bats. P. Sweeney led Twinsburg Varsity Tigers with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, piling up five walks for the game. Twinsburg Varsity Tigers turned one double play in the game.
