Quick update on some of the bigger issues going on within the Township. I hope to get back to office hours soon-will probably have them in the coming weeks online.
Safety and Administration Building Update–
After some delays due to additional permits and mitigation we have approval from the county to start! This has been a good 18 months of planning and we are very excited about this project. This building will replace our current fire station on Rt 82, have space for policing and all of our administrative offices will be here- one central campus. This building will be located just north of 271 off of Olde 8 where are current road department is. We are hopeful the building will be ready sometime in late fall.
Fire Levy
As you all know, our Fire Protection is contracted to Macedonia. Our current levy brings in $315k a year with ambulance services billing bringing in another $170k. Unfortunately the contract with Macedonia has jumped from $425k to $589k starting in 2022 so we will have a levy on the ballot in May. Macedonia does an amazing job and we knew our current contract would go up. This will cost $70 a year ($6 a month) for every 100k in appraised value. The good news is that we have done a 15 year projection and we anticipate and are hopeful not needing any additional increases after this one for at least a decade or potentially as long as 15 years! Also we don’t anticipate any other increases for policing or roads levies either (just renewals which means no increases) in the coming years for those services so we feel good about our fiscal position.
Old Townhall Building
We were able to secure a grant through the county to replace the roof on the building. This will allow us to then address the water issues inside the building as a result of the failed roof and we will continue to find grants to help. Even though we are moving to the new building, the old Townhall will not be forgotten about and we will continue to do what we can.
Cannon Park (park at 82/Olde
Trustees approved a quote to restore and update the Flagpole (see pictures) We are excited to get this completed and are hoping to have it done prior to the Memorial Day parade. We are also working with our local Boy Scouts to have them involved in our community parks to update landscaping and other projects-great community partnerships!
Service Department
We continue to keep those roads clear with all the snow and they have been working on a variety of other things. We are putting together crack sealing and other 2022 goals. Bayberry and Beachwood continue to be focus for grants to get repaired and replaced.
Hopefully that helps with just some of the many things going on. Please continue to be safe, and please call or message me if you have any questions or concerns.
All the best!
