FAREWELL TO OUR FRIEND SAM CIOCCO

Our longtime Township Administrator and friend to many, Sam Ciocco, passed away unexpectedly last week after a brief illness.

Although not elected, Sam was the ultimate ‘Trustee’ and ran Northfield Center Township on a day to day basis because that was his job.  And it was a job that he loved.  Even on sick days and vacation time, Sam would conduct Township business from his home and even gave his cell phone number to residents so that they could contact him anytime with problems for him to help resolve.

During his career, Sam served under ten Trustees and four fiscal officers.  He was also a history buff and worked closely with the Historical Society of Olde Northfield and the Palmer House in archiving the area’s history.

I am going to miss my friend Sam as I am sure many others also will.  Even though Sam will no longer be seen in his office, some of the little trinkets laying around that he collected over the years will remind all of us about our jovial friend with whom we had the privilege of working with all these years.

In keeping with Sam’s wishes, his funeral arrangements will be private.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Q >>> – I know this is out of your area of expertise because it concerns Sagamore Hills   Township, however, I ask this question because many Northfield Center Township residents travel this road on a daily basis. The speed limit on Valley View Road between Chaffee Road and Sagamore  Road was 50 MPH until it was recently lowered to 35 MPH. Since nothing in the surrounding area has changed, I am wondering what logic led to this decrease. I do know that Sagamore Hills now routinely posts a Police Car at the bottom of the hill next to Sagamore Road.

A >>> – It was either earlier this year or late last year that the Cuyahoga Valley National Park worked with all communities located within the Park boundaries to lower all speed limits to 35MPH.
