Kirra Smeal delivered a flawless offensive performance, going 4-for-4 with a home run and a double, as the Nordonia Varsity Lady Knights overwhelmed the Crestwood Varsity Red Devils 28-3 on Tuesday. Smeal’s consistent production came throughout the game, with singles in the first and seventh innings, a solo home run in the fifth, and a run-scoring double in the seventh.
The game reached extraordinary proportions when Nordonia erupted for 19 runs in a marathon seventh inning. Laura Garey delivered the highlight with a grand slam, but the offensive onslaught continued relentlessly. Maddie Nyce contributed both a solo home run and an RBI single, while Gracie Smith drove in three runs with a triple and a double. Brooke Becker, Hailey Yurmanovich, and Madison Hetrick all added run-scoring hits during the remarkable frame.
Nordonia established control early, putting together a six-run first inning. Garey opened the scoring with an RBI single, followed by Becker’s two-run double. Smith’s triple, Smeal’s single, and Yurmanovich’s single each drove in a run, giving the Lady Knights a commanding early advantage. They continued to build their lead with single runs in the second, third, and fifth innings before the seventh-inning explosion.
In the pitching circle, Smeal not only dominated offensively but also earned the win with three solid innings of work. She allowed just three unearned runs on six hits while striking out four batters. Haylie Lambes was equally effective in relief, tossing four scoreless innings while allowing only two hits and striking out five.
The Lady Knights’ offensive statistics were staggering, with 30 total hits. Three players—Smeal, Smith, and Nyce—collected four hits apiece, while Becker, Garey, Smith, and Yurmanovich each drove in multiple runs. Nordonia also showed exceptional aggression on the basepaths, stealing 14 bases throughout the contest, with Nyce, Smith, and Smeal each recording multiple steals.
Defensively, the Lady Knights were sharp as well, turning a double play to help limit Crestwood’s offensive opportunities.
For the Red Devils, players identified only by their numbers (#2, #3, and #8) each collected two hits in a challenging day, while player #7 went 1-for-4 and drove in the team’s lone RBI.
