Nordonia Varsity Knights fell 3-1 to Hudson on Tuesday despite out-hitting them seven to three. Owen Smotek and Michael Wolff each collected two hits for Nordonia Varsity Knights.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Hudson pitchers struck out four, while Nordonia Varsity Knights sat down three.
Nordonia Varsity Knights got on the board in the fourth inning after Kyle Nealon drew a walk, scoring one run.
Hudson jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning after Nordonia Varsity Knights committed an error, Bakonyi grounded into a fielder’s choice, and Alex Travis hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run.
#4 earned the win for Hudson. The reliever surrendered zero hits and zero runs over two-thirds of an inning, striking out none and walking none. Evan Leitner took the loss for Nordonia Varsity Knights. The pitcher went six innings, surrendering three runs (zero earned) on three hits, striking out three and walking two. Pollo started on the hill for Hudson. The hurler surrendered seven hits and one run over five and one-third innings, striking out four and walking two.
Travis and Bakonyi were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in one run for Hudson. Morgan, Dennison, and Deutsch each collected one hit for Hudson. Hudson were sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Havens made the most plays with six.
Nordonia Varsity Knights play at home on Thursday against Hudson in their next game.
