Nordonia Varsity Knights stayed in it until the end, but Stow-Munroe Falls Varsity Bulldogs pulled away late in a 3-2 victory on Monday. The game was tied at two in the top of the sixth when Aiden Clark drew a walk, scoring one run.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Stow-Munroe Falls Varsity Bulldogs pitchers struck out six, while Nordonia Varsity Knights sat down six.
Nordonia Varsity Knights were the first to get on the board in the second when Daniel Wise drew a walk, scoring one run.
A single by Tyler Reville extended the Nordonia Varsity Knights lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the third inning.
Stow-Munroe Falls Varsity Bulldogs tied the game in the top of the fifth thanks to a single by Brennan Kupetz, and a sacrifice fly by Ben Bee.
Clark earned the win for Stow-Munroe Falls Varsity Bulldogs. The pitcher allowed two hits and zero runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking one. Wise took the loss for Nordonia Varsity Knights. The righty went two innings, allowing one run on one hit, striking out one and walking two. Michael Wolff opened the game for Nordonia Varsity Knights. The starter gave up five hits and two runs (one earned) over five innings, striking out five and walking two. Mason Stewart started on the mound for Stow-Munroe Falls Varsity Bulldogs. The hurler gave up three hits and two runs (one earned) over three and one-third innings, striking out three and walking four. Kyle Boozer earned the save.
Wolff and Drew Leffel each collected two hits for Nordonia Varsity Knights. Reville and Wise each drove in one run for Nordonia Varsity Knights. Nordonia Varsity Knights turned one double play in the game.
Stow-Munroe Falls Varsity Bulldogs’s Will Marzec, the number seven hitter, led Stow-Munroe Falls Varsity Bulldogs with two hits in two at bats. Kupetz and Bee each drove in one run for Stow-Munroe Falls Varsity Bulldogs.
