Two separate blazes ignite at Jamestown Container Companies facility
MACEDONIA, Ohio – Macedonia Fire Department battled twin fires at Jamestown Container Companies Thursday evening, containing the blazes after more than three hours of intensive firefighting operations.
The industrial fire began at 5:33 p.m. at the corrugated packaging facility on Bavaria Drive East, with first responders arriving eight minutes later to find flames in a bailing machine at the building’s rear. Crews discovered towering cardboard bales, stacked 12 to 15 feet high, burning deep within their cores.
The situation escalated when firefighters identified a second fire on the opposite side of the large building, this one involving a cutting machine. Fire command immediately upgraded the response and requested additional departments to handle the dual emergency.
For the first two hours, crews simultaneously attacked both fires from different sides of the building while working through heavy smoke conditions. Firefighters methodically broke down cardboard bales to reach smoldering hot spots and ensure complete extinguishment.
Both fires remained contained to machinery and surrounding products, with no structural damage to the building. The blazes were brought under control by 8:56 p.m., though crews remained on scene overnight to monitor for rekindling.
No injuries were reported. The State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause. Eight mutual aid departments responded: Twinsburg, Hudson, Aurora, Valley Fire District, Oakwood, Stow, Streetsboro and Northfield Village, along with Hudson EMS. The American Red Cross provided food and support for firefighters.
The city thanked the community for food and beverage donations, with special recognition to the Red Cross and 330 To Go for coordinating support efforts.
