Nordonia Volleyball: Knights Split Week with Loss and Sweep

Sept. 13: Jackson defeats Nordonia 3-2

Jackson took the first two sets 25-18 and 25-23 before Nordonia rallied to win the third set 26-24. The Knights forced a fifth set with a convincing 25-17 victory in the fourth, but Jackson closed out the match with a 15-10 win in the decisive fifth set.

Nordonia outpaced Jackson offensively, recording 62 kills compared to Jackson’s 52. The Knights also posted a superior .311 hitting percentage against Jackson’s .214.

Addi Lefeld led Nordonia’s attack with 20 kills on 41 attempts, hitting at a .366 clip. Madison Dupont contributed 11 kills while Maddy Bollas and Mariah Moss each added 10 kills for the Knights.

Morgan Root orchestrated the offense with 31 assists while Avery Palinkas added 23 assists. Victoria Intas paced the defense with 18 digs.

For Jackson, freshman B. Brownsword led the way with 15 kills at a .375 hitting percentage. M. Rosenberry contributed 33 assists and five aces to lead the Polar Bears’ offense.

Sept. 16: Nordonia sweeps Stow-Munroe Falls 3-0

The Knights bounced back from their five-set loss to Jackson with a dominant 3-0 sweep of Stow-Munroe Falls at home on Sept. 16. Nordonia controlled the match from start to finish, winning 25-16, 25-21, 25-19.

Nordonia’s offense was efficient throughout, recording 34 kills on 71 attacks with a .338 hitting percentage. The Knights also served aggressively with 15 aces compared to nine for the Bulldogs.

Addi Lefeld again paced the attack with 12 kills on 20 attempts for a .550 hitting percentage. Madison Dupont added eight kills while Mariah Moss contributed seven and Rylee Kinnell chipped in six kills.

Morgan Root and Avery Palinkas combined for 30 assists to run the offense. Lefeld and Dupont each recorded five aces to lead the serving attack.

Madison Dupont anchored the defense with nine digs while Tatum Hameed added seven digs for the Knights.

For Stow-Munroe Falls, Avery Kruse led with eight kills while Maya Cooper and M. Mccullough each added multiple kills in the losing effort.

The victory improved Nordonia to 10-2 overall and 6-1 in Suburban League-National Conference play. The Knights have won 32 sets while losing just 11 this season and are riding a one-game winning streak. Nordonia remains undefeated on the road at 6-0 while posting a 4-2 record at home.

The Knights return to action Wednesday when they travel to Solon.
