A Longwood Manor Year-End Recap

It’s almost time to say “good-bye” to 2026 and farewell to the 100th anniversary year-long celebration of Longwood Manor. 2027 starts the second century of its existence.

It’s been an exciting year of progress for the Manor house. The 100th anniversary celebrated the opening of the second floor to visitors, featuring the living room and dining room; bedroom, including the individual bathrooms, closets, and dressing room of Colonel William Frew Long and wife Isabel; as well as pictures and riding paraphernalia of Colonel Long’s hunt club days. A Veterans’ Room has been established in recognition of Colonel Long’s military career as well as honoring all military Veterans. Visitor capacity to the Manor house has been increased to 49. And the City of Macedonia spearheaded replacement of the 100-year-old slate roof, taking place now.

On the entertainment front, Longwood Manor Historical Society again hosted monthly open houses on the last Sunday of the month from April through October. May celebrated the 100th Anniversary Ladies Tea. Broadcasting historian Mike Olszewski hosted a talk on television personalities Ernie “Ghoulardi” Anderson, Charles “Big Chuck” Schodowski, and Tim Conway, in June. August saw LMHS’s most successful Rummage Sale to date, earning over $2000 towards building restoration. The Haunted Manor took place in October in conjunction with the City of Macedonia’s Trunk or Treat, the City supplying outdoor displays including ghosts and ghouls driving yard care machinery!

On December 13th the annual Christmas Open House and Boutique will bring the year to a close. Join LMHS for refreshments, fun, and a visit from that Certain Someone from the North Pole.

We wish to recognize and give thanks for the support of our Volunteers, as well as the City of Macedonia, Mayor Nicholas Molnar and Council, the Parks and Recreation Department, and the City’s Service Department. Also thanks to students from Nordonia High School who completed their Community Hours volunteering at Longwood Manor.

And you, the Citizens of Macedonia and surrounding communities, who believed in keeping the history of Longwood Manor and its founder, Colonel William Frew Long, a living entity for years and generations to come.

Thank you.
