Guardians Make Deals But Don’t Make a Splash

With the Major League Baseball Trade Deadline being at six p.m. on August 1st, teams around the country were certainly busy on the phones working their magic. This included the Cleveland Guardians and three crucial trades that were made…
-Trading Amed Rosario to the Dodgers for Noah Syndergaard.
-Trading Aaron Civale to the Rays for Kyle Manzardo.
-Trading Josh Bell to the Marlins for Jean Segura and Kahlil Watson.

Now, these moves don’t scream for a team that is very much in the hunt of the Minnesota Twins and winning the AL Central. It’s a division that is mediocre at best and it clearly shows in the standings. After all, Minn leads with a 56-54 record (at the time of this writing). Take the AL East and the Baltimore Orioles lead with a 67-42 record. What a whopping difference…

The Guardians are obviously selling instead of buying to try and win this year.

In 13 games, Noah Syndergaard is 1-4 with a gruesome 6.68 ERA. 1B Kyle Manzardo is currently still a prospect. SS Kahlil Watson is another prospect. Finally, the team cut 3B Jean Segura to save money for ’24.

No, it’s not like the Guardians traded away Jim Thome or Albert Belle. However, they did let go of some solid players and didn’t receive much in return. The best part of these trades will be if the prospects actually pan out in the future. That’s a wait-and-see game moving forward to future seasons.
