Macedonia City Council Special Meeting 3-19-25

This was a special council meeting primarily focused on passing several resolutions and ordinances that had been previously discussed at the March 13, 2025 regular council meeting. Mayor Molnar noted that the special meeting was called to address time-sensitive matters, particularly related to road improvement projects.

Legislation Passed

The council conducted second and third readings and unanimously passed the following items:

Resolutions

  1. Resolution 13-2025: Authorizing the City Engineer to prepare plans and specifications and the Mayor to advertise for bids for Longwood Park Trail improvements.
  2. Resolution 14-2025: Authorizing the City Engineer to prepare plans and specifications and the Mayor to advertise for bids for storm sewer replacement at 371 East Aurora Road (100% funded by Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District Community Cost-Share Program).

Ordinances

  1. Ordinance 15-2025: Approving updates to the codified ordinances of Macedonia to incorporate recent changes to Ohio law and previous city ordinances.
  2. Ordinance 16-2025: Authorizing the Mayor to enter into an agreement with Graybar Electric Company for the purchase and installation of lighting for the Macedonia Recreation Center parking lot at a cost of $85,578.00.
  3. Ordinance 17-2025: Authorizing the Mayor to enter into a contract with Perrin Asphalt Company for the Ledge Road Resurfacing Project (lowest bid at $495,054.35).
  4. Ordinance 18-2025: Authorizing the Mayor to enter into a contract with Ronyak Paving, Inc. for the 2025 Road Program (lowest bid at $1,223,827.88).
  5. Ordinance 19-2025: Updating the compensation schedule for non-union employees, including:
    • Increasing the number of Human Resources/Payroll Specialists from one to three
    • Creating new positions for Full-Time Custodian and Part-Time Custodian in the Parks & Recreation Department
  6. Ordinance 20-2025: Authorizing the Mayor to enter into a contract with Cardinal Asphalt Company for the 2025 North Freeway Drive Pavement Repairs Project (lowest bid at $119,827.90).

Mayor’s Comments

Mayor Molnar provided a brief explanation about the special meeting’s timing, noting that certain projects (particularly road repairs) were time-sensitive. He specifically mentioned that North Freeway Drive was in “atrocious condition” and required urgent attention to begin repairs as quickly as possible.
