The Nordonia Knights high school boys and girls swimming and diving teams are both off to fast starts as they look to carry their success from last season into the 2023-2024 campaign. The girls swim team returning state qualifiers; Hailey Kaminski and Emily Yorkievitz, along with district qualifiers Abby Pohlmeyer, Payton Pelkowski, Reanna Turk, Arijana Smajlovic, and Amanda Larsen. They seek to improve from their previous second-place finish in the Conference and Top ten performance at the Northeast Ohio District Meet a year ago. The boys swim team has returning district qualifiers; Jimmy Alexander, Noah Holtz, Noah Beaver, Paul Yorkievitz, and Patrick Newyear as they look to also follow up on their second-place finish in the Suburban League as well.
“We have the largest contingent of returning district qualifiers since I have been here”, Coach Yorkievitz commented. Additionally, “with the amount of young talent that we have added to this team, along with our returning swimmers and divers=the sky’s the limit.”
The boys opened the season with a 2 and 1 record with wins over Avon and Riverside and a loss to Solon. They finished 6th out of 33 teams at the Chardon Hilltopper Invitational and 4th at the Annual Solon Relays this past weekend.
The girls team opened with a 2 and 1 record with wins against Solon and Riverside and a loss to Avon. They finished 4th out of 33 teams at the Chardon Hilltopper invitational and 3rd at the Annual Solon Relays.
Coach Yorkievitz says, “We are just getting started. Hailey broke two meet records at the Chardon invitational and our kids are already swimming times faster than they did at this time last year. It’s going to be a fun ride and I am just glad to be a part of it.”
