Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson introduced a new statewide effort this week called the Heart of Kindness initiative. The program asks residents and police officers to report at least 250 acts of kindness to his office before the end of the year.
A Nod to a Milestone Birthday
Wilson tied the campaign to the nation’s 250th birthday year. He said the effort is meant to highlight the good hearted exchanges that already happen daily between officers and the communities they serve.
“Here in Ohio, we know one of the best ways to build stronger communities is pretty simple: kindness,” Wilson said. “We want to hear about your good deeds and celebrate the generosity that makes Ohio the Heart of Kindness.”
Everyday Gestures, Big and Small
Officers sometimes go beyond their normal duties to help someone in need. They might change a flat tire, rescue a trapped pet or volunteer at a charity event.
Members of the public return the favor in their own ways. Someone might buy an officer coffee, write a thank you note or clear snow from a parking spot.
How to Submit an Act of Kindness
The attorney general’s office partnered with Kindland on the project. Submissions can be sent through OhioAttorneyGeneral.gov/Kindness or emailed to Kindness@OhioAGO.gov.
Selected stories will appear on the office’s social media pages. The first 250 eligible entries will each receive a limited edition challenge coin from the attorney general’s office. Submissions are due by Dec. 31.
