A Vision Built on Continuity and Toughness
For Scott Barwidi, the transition to head coach is less about a personal career milestone and more about the stability of the Nordonia football program. Having served as an assistant for nearly two decades, Barwidi stepped into the role to maintain the culture established during the previous administration.
“I have always enjoyed being an assistant coach on the football field,” Barwidi said. “When the news broke about Coach Fox leaving, I just knew that this was the right move for our players and this program to maintain consistency and continuity.”
Fans can expect to see a reflection of Barwidi’s own personality in the team’s performance: a brand of football defined by physical play and emotional passion. His philosophy prioritizes the growth of student-athletes into “excellent young adults” who make the Nordonia Hills community proud.
The Path to Leadership in Nordonia Hills
While this is Barwidi’s first stint as a head football coach, his 13-year tenure leading the Nordonia track and field program provided essential leadership experience. During that time, he guided the track team to 13 league championships and four district titles. However, he acknowledges that the Nordonia football head coaching position is a unique responsibility given the high expectations of the Macedonia community.
Barwidi’s deep roots in the district are a primary reason for his long-standing commitment. He has spent 11 years with his family in the school district, building relationships with local families that have made Nordonia a “special place” for his wife, son, and daughter.
Preparing for the 2026 Season and Two-A-Days
As the Knights look toward the fall, the focus remains squarely on physical preparation and skill refinement. Barwidi and his staff are currently overseeing intensive speed and strength training in the weight room.
The upcoming season holds personal significance for the new head coach, as it offers the opportunity to lead a senior class he has coached since they were in the fourth grade through Nordonia Youth Football. His message to the team as they begin this new chapter is simple: attack every day with the goal of becoming “one day better.”
