Summit County Executive Ilene Shapiro is encouraging high school seniors interested in public service careers to apply for a $2,000 scholarship opportunity. The Ohio Counties Scholarship, sponsored by the County Commissioners Association of Ohio (CCAO) Research and Educational Foundation, is available to students planning to attend Ohio universities, community colleges, training programs, or vocational schools.
The scholarship aims to support students pursuing careers in public service, which includes roles like caseworkers, police officers, court staff, prosecutors, IT specialists, and city planners. One scholarship will be awarded to a student in each of the five CCAO districts across Ohio.
“As much as I cherish my experience in the private sector, fully committing to be a public servant has brought me immense joy throughout the years and has allowed me to deeply connect with our community,” said Executive Shapiro, who also serves as CCAO Treasurer. “I urge local students with great aspirations and caring hearts to take advantage of this great scholarship opportunity.”
