The David Hudson Chapter of The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) Recognizes Future Leaders

Hudson, OH – The David Hudson Chapter, NSDAR continued its annual tradition of recognizing local students, ranging from grade school through high school, for their participation in our patriotic contest. Each year, the David Hudson Chapter, NSDAR offers schools in Aurora, Bedford, Hudson, Nordonia, Sagamore Hills, Solon, and Twinsburg, the opportunity for their students to provide submissions focused on patriotism.

We received an astounding 93 entries in the Junior American Citizen competition. The theme was, “The 200th Anniversary of the Santa Fe Trail: Moving the Stars & Stripes Westward.” Participants focused on creating the following, which were centered around the theme:

  • Group Banner
  • Stamp Design
  • Poster
  • Digital
  • Poetry
  • Short Story

Sixth grader, Sophia Lambert from Heritage Classical Academy, won first place on the American history essay titled, “Delegate to Second Continental Congress.” Eighth graders from St. Barnabas, Thomas McClendon won first place and Michael Kramer won second place for their grade.

A $500 scholarship was awarded to Nordonia High School Senior, Simran Randhawa, winner of the DAR Good Citizens Award, who wrote an essay titled, “Our American Heritage and Our Responsibility for Preserving It.” A separate $500 scholarship was awarded to Twinsburg High School Senior, Abigail Carroll, winner of the David Hudson Chapter, NSDAR Scholarship Award.

The award ceremony was held in the Community Rooms at Hudson City Hall on February 12. Opening remarks were made by Chapter President, Jan Kroll. The Archibald Willard Color Guard from Western Reserve Society, Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), opened and closed the ceremony. Over 150 students and their families gathered to accept their awards and enjoy light refreshments and lively conversation.

The DAR is honored to recognize and support these students and acknowledge their exemplary work.
