Monthly Challenges

For Grades K-5 – Monthly challenges will be located in children’s area. Complete the challenge for a chance to win a small prize.

Mystery Book Discussion

The Mystery Book Lovers discussion group is an informal group of adult mystery readers. Our next discussion will be on The The Good Girl by Mary Kubica on Wednesday, July 24 at 6:30 p.m.

Baby Time

Baby Time features books, bounces, songs, and bubbles followed by a play time. Thursdays, July 25 and August 1, 10:15 a.m., for children 24 months and under with a parent or caregiver.

Story Time

Story time features stories, rhymes, music, flannels, and bubbles followed by a play time. Thursdays, July 25 and August 1, 11:30 a.m., for children ages 2-5, with two-year-olds accompanied by a parent or caregiver.

Mind, Body, & Sole Summer Reading Club

A Universe of Stories! Sign up for our reading/wellness experience for the whole family to enjoy. Read, live active, and win prizes. Sign up at the Library today! Mind Body & Sole will run through July 27.

Adult Coloring Night

Bring your own coloring book or choose from provided coloring pages and spend the evening relaxing and coloring with new friends. Tuesday, July 30, 6 p.m.

The Beatles in Cleveland

Relive the excitement of Beatlemania as John, Paul, George and Ringo visit Cleveland for two of the wildest, out of control concerts in Beatles – and rock ‘n’ roll – history. Author Dave Schwensen will take you behind the scenes and on stage with The Fab Four through insider stories, rare concert films, never-before published photos and memorabilia. The evening’s highlights include films of The Beatles riotous concerts at Cleveland Public Hall in 1964 and Municipal Stadium in 1966. Books and concert t-shirts will be available for purchase and author signing at a special library discount price following the program. Tuesday, July 30, 6 p.m.

Crafters’ Corner

Join your fellow craft enthusiasts for daylong fun. Bring your own supplies. All crafts welcome. Lots of table space to spread out. Refreshments served. Come for an hour or the entire day. Saturday, August 3, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Family Night

Family of all ages join together for some great crafts. One Monday a month at 6 p.m. Monday, August 5 – Make a boat that really floats.

From Golf Course to Conservation Area: the Transformation of Valley View

A few years ago, Summit Metro Parks acquired the Valley View Golf Course in Akron, Ohio. Now known as our Valley View Conservation Area, the acquisition connects Gorge, Sand Run, and Cascade Valley Parks into a SuperPark. Staff at Metro Parks are busy working to restore the area to a natural area for fish, wildlife and ultimately people. Come learn what is happening behind the scenes at Valley View with Mike Johnson, Chief of Conservation, Summit Metro Parks. Wednesday, August 7, 6:30 p.m.

Summer Jazz Series – Moustache Yourself – Gypsy Jazz

Moustache Yourself, Northeast Ohio’s leading gypsy jazz quartet, will play an eclectic mix of songs in the gypsy jazz style, an old-world sound made famous in the 1930s by guitarist Django Reinhardt. Gypsy jazz, also known as gypsy swing, hot club jazz, or by its French name, “Jazz Manouche”, is a musical style made famous in the 1930s by guitarist Django Reinhardt. Northeast Ohio’s leading gypsy jazz quartet, Moustache Yourself, incorporates this style into an eclectic mix of songs, including original compositions with a unique American Bebop influence. Musicians are clarinetist Brad Wagner, bassist Matthew DeRubertis, and guitarists Brent Hamker and Jeremy Jones. Their infectious rhythm and exotic melodies will capture your soul and transport you to a different time and place. Enjoy this rare treat of old world sounds!  Thursday, August 8, 6:30 p.m.

Monday Casual Reads

Join us the second Monday of each month for book discussions, fun, and sharing with fellow light reading lovers. We will discuss The Library at the Edge of the World by Felicity Hayes-Mccoy on Monday, August 12 at 2 p.m.

Dungeons and Dragons

Stitch Clique

Grab your crocheting/knitting needles and yarn and stitch the evening away. Join us the second Tuesday of each month for crocheting/knitting tips, friendship, advice and more. Refreshments will be served. Tuesday, August 13, 6-8 p.m.

Paws for Reading

Read a book to Edmund, a certified therapy dog. Bring a book or read one of ours! This is a great way for children to practice their literacy skills and gain more confidence in reading aloud. Children of all ages are welcome. Tuesday, August 13 at 6:30 p.m.

Socrates Café

Interested in candid, thought-provoking conversation? Join your fellow patrons at the Socrates Café, an informal adult discussion that takes place each month here at the library. The Cafe opens on Wednesday, August 14 at 6:30 p.m. 16 & over, please.

Nordonia Hill Game Time

Join our regular gaming “meet-up” each month for patrons who enjoy board games, cards, chess, role-playing, war games, and collectible card games. The next meet-up will be on Saturday, August 17, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Join fellow local players – Sharpen your intellect – Enjoy the social aspects of games. Refreshments served. No registration necessary.

Writers’ Guild of Nordonia Hills

Writers wanted! New writers and old hands welcome: fiction, nonfiction, and everything in between. Have your work critiqued and give feedback to others in a fun and friendly environment. Please bring a sample of your work to share. Light snacks provided. Meets the third Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, August 21.
