Patient John Smith aka John Smith and his wife came to the Cleveland Feeding and Swallowing Center LLC after John had suffered a Brain Stem Stroke that left him unable to swallow his own spit.
John was being treated at another Center in Cleveland that could not help him, after 24 days of therapy and using up all his insurance he was suggested to find therapy else where.
And that is how John came to find us. Cleveland Feeding and Swallowing Center works closely with GastroEnterology associates of Cleveland located in Beachwood. Upon John’s first visit and evaluation it was noted that patient had to be seen by Dr, Frankel whom would than dilate John and than I would treat John with Vital stim(NMES) to help improve his muscle function to strengthen his swallow along with figuring out what John was able to eat, it took over 39 sessions of Vital Stim(NMES) and 6 dilation to get John to eat again but after 3 months of therapy and working closely with Dr. Frankel, and myself John went home eating everything.
There is hope for patients, it takes a team to make the difference. John came to us with a bag to spit in and left us eating a hamburger, a very happy patient.
