Nordonia -5 Win vs. Mayfield -2 Jan. 20, 2023 @ Gilmour
1st Period – First goal by Noah Vega #11, assist by Brett Rapp #21. Brett Rapp caught the puck with his glove, dropped it quickly, and passing it across the middle, just past the blue line to Vega who scored from above the circle with a high slap shot in the top left corner.
Coach Cinalli said, “first period we outshot them 19 to 1, each goal we scored had 1-2 assists, which is a great sign of teamwork”.
Second goal by Jacob Waite #24, received rebound off assist by Simon Kiselis #16 and Vega
Third goal scored by freshman Collin Schleman #28 as he took shot from bottom of the circle.
It was an exciting start to the game for Nordonia, as it was mostly an offensive game. Mayfield finally sneaks one in midway through second period, as they hung out in Nordonia’s defensive zone a little more.
Coach Cinalli said, “Second period we were even with Mayfield by each scoring one goal. We outshot them 10-7”.
Rapp scored with an assist by Owen Tindall #10 with less than a minute remaining. Mayfield scored their second goal while Nordonia was not at full strength. “Numerous penalties led to decreased strength in the third period”, Cinalli said.
In the third period Schleman, skated up to the circle, scoring a goal after he stepped into Mayfield’s crease, bringing the final score to 5-2. Schleman, who is a consistent second line player, seems to grind out a point per game. Senior Kevin Waite #33 had 12 saves.

Senior Shout outs from NHS Hockey Parents:
Kevin Waite #33 Goalie. “Kevin was always very athletic as a small child but loved baseball the most. He learned to ice skate at age three and dabbled in learning to play hockey at age 11. He worked very hard to become a pitcher and catcher at baseball, helping him to hone in on his great hand/eye coordination, and excelling at it. He was quick to step up, and try something new when his school hockey team needed him most; as their goalie. We are always proud to hear people from other teams comment on how they can’t believe he’s only been in net for two years. He’s fierce in the net! We are thrilled to have the hockey memories with him, wish there were more, and we thank Coach Cinalli, the confidence he’s gained by shaping him in such a positive way”. – Valerie & Pete Waite
Daniel Kimpton #5 Defenseman. “Hockey has been a huge part of our family for the past ten years. We’ve spent early mornings, late nights and really fun tournament road trips during Daniel’s youth and hockey career. It’s hard to believe this chapter of our lives will be coming to an end. Daniel has always been fun to watch play. He’s a faster skater and enjoys checking people, which is a good recipe for exciting shifts. Our family’s favorite high school memory is Daniel’s freshman year- winning the first division championship in Nordonia hockey history. It was a SOLD OUT game at Gilmour. Nordonia won in overtime. Daniel played a really good game helping his team to victory. Daniel plans to attend Ohio University and hopes to play hockey in college. But, if not, it’s been a heck of a good ride. Thank you Daniel aka #45 and #5 for providing mom and I so many great hockey memories.” -Dale & Helen Kimpton, @ Kimpton Printing & Specialties. Proud supporters
