Nordonia Knights Swimming and Diving – A Season to Remember

The Nordonia Knights swimming and diving teams had a season to remember and last week it continued as post season Suburban League all conference awards were announced. On the Girls team, Emily Yorkievitz and Hailey Kaminski both received first team all-conference honors, while Arijana Smajlovic was awarded second team all-conference. Abby Pohlmeyer and Reanna Turk were given honorable mentions. For the Boy’s team, Noah Beaver was named to the first team while Colton Frances, Patrick Newyear, Paul Yorkievitz, and Noah Holtz were all named to the second team. Receiving Honorable mentions for the boys were Michael Gruber and Jimmy Alexander. Three years ago, the team was only selected to the all-conference team, the growth of this team has been incredible and we are still a young team.” Coach Yorkievitz commented.

Looking back on the season, the Boys finished with 10 wins and 2 losses. Finished tied for second in the Suburban League, and finished 4th overall at the Akron D1 Sectional meet. The boys also had 7 individuals qualify for the Northeast Ohio Division 1 district meet. The girls finished with a 9 and 3 record, finished with sole possession of second place in the Suburban League, and finished 3rd overall in the Akron Division 1 Sectional meet. They also placed in the top ten at the Northeast Ohio District meet with a total of 6 swimmers and 3 divers competing. The girls also set three new school relay records and 2 individual records as well as having 1 conference champion and 1sectional champion.

The girls 200 free relay team of Hailey Kaminski, Abby Pohlmeyer, Reanna Turk, and Emily Yorkievitz also became the first girls sectional relay champion in school history The season ended with Emily and Hailey qualifying for the OHSAA Division 1 state meet. “We arrived as a team one year earlier than I expected” Coach Yorkievitz, said. “That’s a tribute to how hard all of our kids worked and the incredible depth of this team. With most swimmers coming back next year, it could be another special season”.
