Well, the Knights are officially halfway through the regular season. It is incredible how fast time flies, especially when you’re winning. The Knights played their 2nd away game of the season at Serpentini Chevrolet Stadium in North Royalton, Ohio on Friday, September 15th and walked away with an incredible win of 36-0. The boys walked onto the field with determination to win, and walked off the field with a win.
It didn’t take long for the Knights to start unleashing their strength against the Bears. It started at the beginning of the game as running back Rocco DeLorenzo made the first touchdown of the game with 9:51 remaining in the first quarter. Connell Rafferty then attempted the kick; which was deemed good. Just in the first 2 minutes and 9 seconds of the game, the Knights were already on the board with a score of 7-0. But, it wasn’t the first time that the Knights would score during the first quarter of this incredible game. With 5:19 left in the first quarter, the Knights increased their deficit to a score of 13-0; as quarterback Ben Chesser’s pass was completed to Knights wide receiver Ricardo Ruffin for 66 yards making the touchdown. Rafferty’s kick was then deemed good, allowing the score of the game to move onto 14-0. This was only the beginning of the whirlwind of a game for the Knights.
The second quarter had also been great for the boys. It was clear that they had wanted to walk out of Serpentini Chevrolet Stadium victorious against the Bears. Although it was shown, they played like they had wanted to win. With 11:02 remaining in the 2nd quarter, quarterback Ben Chesser struck again with another completed 30 yard pass to wide receiver Sam Collins, allowing for another touchdown. With another good kick for Connell Rafferty, the score of the game was moved to 21-0. But, the Knights did not stop there. Running back Rocco DeLorenzo had rushed 6 yards to the North Royalton line, allowing the Knights score to be 27-0, and Rafferty’s kick was once again deemed good to move the score to 28-0.
The score of the game allowed Knights fans to smile and get on the edge of their seats, anxious to see what the Knights had in store for the crowd next. As they went in for halftime, it was clear to the fans that they were proud of how they were playing and excited to increase the deficit. The teamwork and effort on and off the field has been outrageously great, and it has come to show in this game especially, that these men support one another and appreciate their teammates and their coaches. You could see it in this game, especially.
The third quarter was deemed that until the end of the game, it would be a running clock. The deficit of the game was too high in order to keep on stopping the clock; and it would be in the best interest of both teams to run the clock. The 1st touchdown of the 2nd half came from the running back, Rocco DeLorenzo with 7:53 remaining on the clock. DeLorenzo rushed 67 yards to the Bears end zone in order to make the touchdown, allowing the Knights to increase their score by 6; which allowed the game to be a score of 34-0. Ben Chesser then rushed 3 yards, allowing the extra points, which then increased the game to a knockout score of 36-0.
Since there was a running clock, the Knights had an easy fourth quarter. There were a few incomplete passes as well as punts; but the boys knew that they had the momentum and could easily put this game behind them. It was a fun game to watch as a Knights alumna, and cheer them on as they easily put the game in the bag. There were a few notable performances during the game which included quarterback Ben Chesser’s 6 for 14, 2 touchdowns, and 5 rushes for 39 yards. Running back Rocco DeLorenzo also had an incredible game with 14 rushes for 135 yards, and 3 touchdowns. Defensive back Owen Smotek had also made an interception, which was incredible to watch.
The Knights will take on the Twinsburg Tigers (2-3) next week at Twinsburg Middle School on Friday, September 22nd at 7:00 pm. This is the traditional crosstown rivalry, and we are excited to watch the rivals face off next week, with probably the last warm game of the season. With the win against North Royalton, the Knights became the only undefeated team in the suburban league conference.
