The Nordonia Hockey Knights have entered the second half of their 2023-2024 Hockey season, and they are battling hard to keep their season alive.
On January 9, 2024, the ice hockey Knights took on Normandy High School where they fell to the Invaders by a final score of 6-2.
“We played their number 1 team and played well and a lot faster, but was not able to get the job done”, says Head Coach Rich Cinalli.
On January 11, 2024, the Knights went to Kent State Ice Arena to take on Kent Roosevelt, where the Knights got defeated by a final score of 10-4.
The Knights held their own where Preston Kanar had 32 saves in this game.
Head Coach Rich Cinalli says, “They were faster than us and had more shot opportunities in this game. This game was mostly played in our defensive zone”.
On January 14, 2024, the ice hockey Knights lost to Aurora High School, which is a Blue North team, by a final score of 6-5.
The Knights gave up 4 goals in the first period, but after that they took control in the second and third periods. Even though the Knights ended up taking control of the game after the first period, it was still not enough to get the job done against Aurora.
Goals in this game were scored by Collin Schleman (2), Owen Tindall, Jacob Waite, and George Henderson (all having 1).
Assists in this were made by Jack Henderson, Owen Tindall, Frank Costello, and Jarod Outward, followed by Preston Kanar who had 20 saves at the goalie position.
“Jack Henderson had 2 assists and Kanar who had 20 saves got us to a 6-4 score”, says Head Coach Rich Cinalli. “We pulled the goalie at the end to make the score 6-5 but we could not tie it up at the end. We are now moving into the second half of the season which is all division games, and we are currently in second place of the Blue South Division”.
Saturday January 20, 2024, the Ice Hockey Knights are traveling to Mentor where puck drop will start at 6:15p.m.
Then on Sunday, January 21, 2024, the Knights return home to play Brooklyn High School where puck drop will begin at 7:10p.m. Sunday night is Senior Night and Student Appreciation Night where any Nordonia High School student gets in free if wearing any Nordonia gear.
Head Coach Rich Cinalli is hoping to get more students out for the game and pack the house for their team as they are looking to get a clearer picture heading into these Blue South Division games.
