Meeting Agenda

The Village of Northfield held their regular council meeting at 10455 Northfield Road on February 12th. Here are the key highlights:

Public Comments:

  • A resident from Milford Drive expressed strong support for an upcoming sidewalk project, highlighting its importance for neighborhood connectivity and curb appeal. While originally planned for 2026, the project has been pushed to 2027 according to officials.
  • There was discussion about potentially adding sidewalks which would extend from Huntington Park all the way to Ledge Road as well as another arm extending all the way up Huntington to North Plaza Dr.

Administrative Updates:

  • Finance Director Jennifer Potvin announced that department heads have until February 21st to submit their 2025 budget proposals, with plans for final passage in March.
  • Law Director Brad Bryan mentioned upcoming updates to the Police section and general employee section of the administrative code.
  • Engineer Dan Collins discussed progress on the new police station additional work to Smith Park.

Recreation Board Updates:

  • Upcoming events include:
    • Adult Easter egg hunt on April 11th (5,000 eggs)
    • Children’s Easter egg hunt on April 12th (2,000 eggs)
    • If anyone wants to help stuff eggs, they are looking for volunteers.
    • Monthly movie nights planned for the second Saturday of each month, featuring films like Despicable Me 4, Goonies, Raya and the Last Dragon, Beetlejuice (original), and Creepshow,
    • Plans for a Party in the Park event with a Cornhole tournament

Key Legislation:

  1. Resolution 2025-04: Renewal of agreement with Summit County and the Legal Defenders Office of Summit County for Indigent Representation in Stow Municipal Court – motion passed.
  2. Resolution 2025-05: Confirmed the appointment of “Frankie,” an 8-month-old Belgian Malinois, as a new police dog for the Village of Northfield – motion passed.

The council also approved a motion to authorize the mayor to enter into new collective bargaining agreements with:

  • Local Lodge 439, District Lodge 54, International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers for the Term January 1, 2025 through December 31, 2027
  •  The OPBA for the Patrol Officers and Sergeants and for the Lieutenant for the Term January 1, 2025 through December 31, 2027.
