Summit County Election Results: New Faces on Macedonia Council, School Board Races and More Decided Across Region

Voters approve tax levies, elect council members and trustees throughout Summit County; unofficial results

Voters across Summit County made their voices heard Tuesday, with races decided from the Nordonia Hills area to surrounding communities throughout the region. All results are unofficial pending certification by the Summit County Board of Elections.

Nordonia Hills Area Results

Macedonia City Council-at-Large

Three council members were elected in Macedonia’s at-large race, with newcomer Sue Cummings defeating longtime councilman Vini J. Ventura for one of the seats.

Jessica Brandt led the field with 29.07% of the vote (1,754 votes), followed by Cummings at 24.86% (1,500 votes) and Matt Ferraro at 22.09% (1,333 votes). Ventura finished fourth with 20.96% (1,265 votes), ending his tenure on council. Write-in candidates received 3.02% (182 votes). The results were complete with all five precincts reporting.

Village of Northfield

All four Northfield Village ward council races were uncontested. Alan E. Hipps was re-elected in Ward A with 113 votes, Zach Hebebrand in Ward B with 73 votes, Renell M. Noack in Ward C with 87 votes, and Nicholas M. Magistrelli in Ward D with 87 votes.

Northfield Center Township Trustees

Russell F. Mazzola and Gene Lim were elected as Northfield Center Township trustees. Mazzola led with 54.66% (762 votes), while Lim received 45.34% (632 votes). Results were reported from two of two precincts.

Sagamore Hills Township Trustees

David DePasquale and Paul Schweikert were elected as Sagamore Hills Township trustees. DePasquale finished with 51.36% (1,697 votes), edging out Schweikert who received 48.64% (1,607 votes). All five precincts reported results.

Nordonia Hills City School Board

Three candidates were elected to the Nordonia Hills school board in a competitive four-way race. Matt Ford led with 30.78% (4,199 votes), followed by Jason L. Tidmore Sr. with 27.72% (3,781 votes) and Sandra A. Caramela-Miller with 25.05% (3,417 votes). William B. Busse finished fourth with 16.45% (2,244 votes). Results were complete with 13 of 13 precincts reporting.

Macedonia Tax Levy Renewal

Macedonia voters approved a proposed tax levy renewal with 58.30% voting in favor (1,679 votes) compared to 41.70% against (1,201 votes). All five precincts reported complete results.

Surrounding Communities

Twinsburg

Shaun Castillo won the at-large city council seat. David Post was elected in Ward 4 and Greg Bellan in Ward 5. In the school board race, Rhonda Crawford and Merkisha Rush won seats, while Chrisa Kraska held a three-vote lead over Lea Travis for the third seat, triggering an automatic recount.

Twinsburg Township

Jamey DeFabio and Jessica Favitta were elected as township trustees.

Hudson

In the city council at-large race with three open seats, Samantha D’Eramo and Amanda Weinstein won seats, while Kyle Brezovec held a 36-vote lead over Chris Banweg for the third seat, triggering an automatic recount. For the school board, Mark Dzurec, Jon C. Peterson and Kirstin Toth were elected.

Stow

Amber Zibritosky won the municipal court judge race. Drew C. Reilly was elected law director. In city council, Cyle Feldman, Kim Young and Kyle Herman won at-large seats. Ward winners included Matt Riehl (Ward 1), Kelly Coffey (Ward 2), John Baranek (Ward 3) and Mario Fiocca (Ward 4). For the school board, John Moyer and Jason Whitacre won seats, while Tina Merlitti won the unexpired term.

Cuyahoga Falls

Don Walters was elected mayor. Russ Balthis and Brian Ashton won at-large city council seats. Ward winners included Rachel Loza (Ward 1), Susan Anne Spinner (Ward 2), Nikki Cebula (Ward 3), Joe Siegferth (Ward 4), Mike Brillhart (Ward 5), Gary DeRemer (Ward 6), Marie E. Willis (Ward 7), and Frank Stams (Ward 8). Anthony D. Gomez, Courtney Zimmerman and Carrie A. Schaefer were elected to the school board. The school district’s tax levy renewal passed.

Tallmadge

Jessica Epstein, Lindsay Cammel Halm and David G. Kline won at-large city council seats. For the school board, Todd Loughry, Kimberly Polatas and Jennifer Ross were elected. The district’s tax levy renewal passed, but an additional tax levy failed.

Green

Chris Humphrey won the Ward 1 council seat with 53.82% over Krystle Heimberger. C.J. Meager won Ward 2, Richard Brandenburg won Ward 3, and Jeff Noble won Ward 4. Bob Campbell, Nick Fanelly and Katie Stoynoff were elected to the school board.

Munroe Falls

Jim Iona and Chris Ritzinger won at-large council seats. Ross Widenor was elected in Ward 1 and Connie Collinson in Ward 3.

New Franklin

Steve Rector was elected mayor. Judy Jones, Robert Klusty and Kevin Powell won at-large council seats.

Norton

Doug DeHarpart won the Ward 1 council seat, Jamie S. Lukens won Ward 2, Donald G. Harbert won Ward 3, and Paul J. Tousley won Ward 4. Chris Inks, Elisa Staats and Cindy Webel were elected to the school board.

Bath Township

Sean Gaffney and Sharon A. Troike were elected as trustees. Laura Tuttle was elected fiscal officer.

Copley Township

Scott David Dressler and Bruce Koellner were elected as trustees. Roy Speer was elected fiscal officer.

Summit County-Wide Results

Issue 1: Tax Levy Renewal Increase

Summit County’s proposed tax levy renewal increase for the Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services Board passed with 56.90% support (57,168 votes) versus 43.10% opposition (43,299 votes). All 157 precincts across the county reported results.

Issue 2: Charter Amendment

Summit County voters overwhelmingly approved a proposed charter amendment with 79.83% voting yes (78,282 votes) compared to 20.17% voting no (19,775 votes). Complete results were reported from all 157 precincts countywide.

Other Summit County Highlights

Akron

Fran Wilson won the Ward 1 city council seat, while Bruce Bolden won Ward 8. For the school board, Gregory Harrison, Nathan Jarosz, Karmaya Kelly and Phil Montgomery were elected. Ron Cable and Jon A. Oldham won municipal court judge seats.

Barberton

Shorter Griffin Jr. was elected council president. Julie Miller and Chris Stoll won at-large council seats, while Bryan Poorman won the Ward 2 seat. Diana Stevenson was elected municipal court judge, and Katie Reed won the clerk position. Brenda Stevenson Rickenbacker and write-in candidate Jason M. Slater won school board seats.

Revere

Jeffrey Aram Bowler and Jennifer Burke were elected to the school board.

Coventry Township

Edward D. Diebold and Jeff Houck were elected as trustees. Josh Hostetler, Laura McGraw and John Sulek won school board seats.

Springfield Township

Joe DiLauro and Kellie J. Chapman were elected as trustees. Cynthia Frola, Chad Lance and Kelly Warner won school board seats. The district’s two tax levy renewals both passed.

Fairlawn

Joseph V. Gentile won the Ward 1 council seat, Todd Stock won Ward 3, and Michael John Detorakis won Ward 5.

Richfield Village

Carol Campbell, Rick Hudak, Jim Smith and Jeff Stoppenhagen won village council seats.

Richfield Township

Don Laubacher and Robert Luther were elected as trustees.

Boston Township

Mike Anderson and Amy Anderson were elected as trustees.

Additional Village and Township Results

Reminderville elected Victoria Jeromos, Mark Kondik and Becki Kovach to council. In Boston Heights, Bob Bartko, Sasha Chetyrkina-Miller, Christopher Fenn and Susan Wells won council seats. Clinton Village elected Kent Goch and John Henry. Lakemore elected Nicki Coontz, Joseph Hogya, Samuel Ray and Jon Strittmatter. Mogadore elected C. William Bauer, Mary K. Miller and Michael Raddish. Peninsula elected Amy Frank-Hensley, Daniel Krachinsky, Jodi R. Padrutt and Moe Riggins. Silver Lake elected James Kurtz (District A), Kevin Rozsa (District B), Philip Kaplan (District C) and Matthew J. Plesich (District D).

Jackson Local Schools had four candidates running for three board seats. Manchester Local Schools elected Jason Jividen, Dale A. Jolly and Richard P. Sponseller. Mogadore Local Schools elected Michael LiCause, Triston Smead and Christopher G. Williams. Northwest Local Schools elected Jim Gindlesberger, Bob Schilling and Jeff Weygandt. Woodridge Local Schools elected Scott Karlo, Danielle Murphy and Tammy L. Heffernan. Copley-Fairlawn Schools elected Jim Borchik, Stephen M. Coon and Beth Hertz.
