ALAN M. KALISH, best known as “Al”, passed away on August 7, 2026. Loving husband of Mary Lou Kalish (nee Kaczmarek) for just shy of 65 years; cherished father of Marlene (Russ), Stephanie Volek (David), Jennifer Spears, and Richard Kalish; adored “Papa Cookie” to seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Al is the son of the late Henry and Leona Kalish, and brother of Elaine Wise.
To say Al was a born educator is an understatement. He was an Industrial Arts instructor for 34 years, working for varied school systems including Nordonia Schools. For 25 years, he was a Driver’s Education instructor. He took pride in the life lessons he initiated in his children and grandchildren. He was also an active member of the Macedonia Building Department from 1999-2005.
As a youth, Al was active in sports and music. He was in the marching band and became the Drum Major. He furthered his education earning a bachelor’s degree from Bowling Green State University and a master’s degree from Kent State University. He also enjoyed travel and camping with his family.
Family and friends may call at the FERFOLIA FUNERAL HOME, 356 W. AURORA RD. (RT. 82), SAGAMORE HILLS, where funeral services will be held Wednesday at 6:30 pm. VISITATION FROM 3:00 PM UNTIL 8:00 PM.
