Board Approves SROs, Search Progress, Appointed Delegates (Audio)

The Board passed legislation on August 28 which will allow school resource officers to patrol the halls and grounds of district buildings soon.

Members passed memorandums of understanding with Northfield, Macedonia, Sagamore Hills, and the Summit County Sheriff’s Office to enter the School Resource Officer program.

Director of Business Casey Wright has been working on the legislation for more than a year, according to Superintendent Joe Clark.

The district is unique in that five communities come together, Clark said.

“It can be a bit like a puzzle,” he added. Clark credited Wright with “putting the puzzle together.”

“We will have SROs in all of our buildings,” Clark said. Wright thanked the Board and everyone who made the legislation possible. “It’s a big investment and I appreciate the Board’s support,” Wright said. “It was a lot, a lot of work, and a lot of people made this possible.”

The added security will cost the district’s operating budget more than $300,000, President Chad Lahrmer said. “This is a significant investment in security,” Lahrmer said.
