Extra Supplies Are Only A Wish Away For Nordonia Hills Teachers

The days of students needing a pack of No. 2 pencils, a box of new crayons and a few spiral-lined notebooks are gone. Students need a variety of items in today’s modern teaching era – so do teachers. But many times neither can afford all needed for a quality education. However, Nordonia teachers no longer have to wish for help. The teachers can request items from the Nordonia Hills Teacher’s Wish List, a Facebook group with 1,000 members, according to Karen Byers. Byers, the president of Building Boosters, a 501(c)(3) organization, explained the wish list at the August 29, Nordonia Hills Board of Education meeting. According to Byers, the list was started in 2021, during the Covid-19 pandemic. “It gave the community a way to assist and help out any way they could,” Byers said of the group. More than $60,000 in donations were raised in its first year. The list is currently up on the Facebook page, Byers said. Lists will be available throughout the year. Teacher requests have included small items like pencils, markers to larger air purifiers, Byers said. Donations can be made in the name of individual teachers or buildings and through Building Boosters.

Monetary donations made via Building Boosters will be donated 100 percent, Byers added. “This Facebook group gives the community and staff from the schools one more place to come together to show our support for the students and the administration,” Byers said.
