Nordonia Hills Schools Scholarship Granting Organization (NordoniaSGO) is excited to announce that our donations received has broken the $100,000 mark for the 2024/25 year. That’s over $100,000 of donations that will be reimbursed to our donors by the State of Ohio when they file their tax returns. That’s an extra $100,000 of funding from the State and not from our school families and community.
NordoniaSGO is the first, and one of only two scholarship granting organizations (SGO) in the state created to support a public school.
SGO funds must be used for “academic scholarship” per Ohio law. Currently, NordoniaSGO has been focused on generating donations to fully fund Nordonia’s all-day kindergarten program. However, NordoniaSGO would love to reach this goal then move on to even more. Once all-day kindergarten is fully funded, NordoniaSGO will explore using funds for other areas that we can justify as “academic scholarship.” We currently have enough funds on hand to pay for 33 students to attend all-day kindergarten at no cost to their families.
All-in-all, I believe NordoniaSGO has the potential to bring in $500,000 to $1,000,000 in additional funding from the State of Ohio and not from our local parents and taxpayers.
As a reminder, this is how it works.
- Any Ohio taxpayer makes a donation to NordoniaSGO
- NordoniaSGO uses the funds received to help families pay for all-day kindergarten, with a primary focus on low-income families.
- Taxpayer claims the donation on their tax return and can be REIMBURSED by the state up to $750 for an individual or $1500 for a couple.
- Taxpayer makes donation and gets their money back. Taxpayer is out no money.
IT’S NOT TOO LATE – DONATIONS MADE IN 2025, PRIOR TO FILING A 2024 TAX RETURN, ARE STILL ELIGIBLE TO BE CLAIMED ON A 2024 TAX FILING.
