Police Blotter: Theft, Fireworks, And Fraud Bring Warnings And Cites

Police reports are a sampling of blotter items available and are not intended to be all-inclusive.

Theft
A man turns back, full cart is sacked:
A man told police he finished shopping at a Macedonia Commons grocery store on June 22 just before 4 p.m. and took his full grocery cart outside to wait for his wife. The man told police he placed the cart behind his Kia and walked to the front of the car to watch for his wife. While his back was turned someone rolled away the entire cart. The man said there were so many people in the parking lot that it was too hard to spot his cart. Police are investigating.

Vandalism
Object breaks business window:
An employee of an East Aurora Road business called police on June 24 around 9:10 a.m. and said that when he arrived at work around 7 a.m. he discovered the front lobby window had been shattered. The employee found a round steel ball bearing below the window on the outside walkway. Police believe the ball bearing was the right size to have caused the damage. A loss estimate was not attached.

Identify Fraud
Woman approved for unemployment without applying:
A woman told police that she opened a letter addressed to her on June 28 at her home approving her unemployment. However, the woman had not applied for the program. The woman placed a hold on her personal information. Police also advised the woman to monitor her social security card for any unauthorized activity.

Possession of drugs
Late-night park goers get popped for pot:
While on patrol June 29 around 1:15 a.m. a Macedonia Police Officer found two suspicious vehicles parked at Longwood Park. According to the police, one vehicle was a white BMW. The second vehicle was a black BMW, according to the report. Six men were inside one of the vehicles. The other was not occupied. The men told police they were at the park “playing tag.” Police said the men had bloodshot eyes.
An officer detected the smell of marijuana in the vehicles and a K-9 Unit also detected the smell of drugs in both vehicles, according to the police. One of the men allegedly admitted to having drugs. During a police search a marijuana cigarette and a vape pen were found. The items were placed into evidence. One of the men had an outstanding warrant from the Medina County Sheriff’s Department. He was placed under arrest, according to the report. The remaining men were warned and released.

A fire caused by open burning/littering/complaints – fireworks
Early celebration brings citation and flame:
A man was cited on June 29 by police after fireworks ignited a flame at Longwood Park. Police patrolling the area on June 28 spotted two cars parked at 10:20 p.m. at the baseball fields. Several males were in the park and admitted to meeting to shoot off fireworks. The group was advised of the laws on setting off fireworks, advised on park hours, and sent on their way, according to police. At almost 12:39 a.m. one of the same group was found in the park and admitted to shooting off fireworks. At 12:41 a.m. police and fire were called to a reported fire at 9828 Valley View Road. The fire was extinguished by Macedonia Firefighters. Police and fire found several boxes of used fireworks as well as firecracker debris in the park, according to police. Police contacted the man who was at the park earlier. He admitted to shooting off the fireworks. The man was cited for littering and prohibited fireworks, according to police.
